The Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ December sales report indicated that for the year, total farm tractor sales were up 2 percent, while combine sales were off 7.2 percent.
The monthly report showed that for December, sales of four-wheel drive tractors were off 15.1 percent compared to December of 2010, and sales of self-propelled combines were down 29.4 percent compared to December of 2010.
Tractor sales in the two-wheel drive sector were up 1.9 percent for 2011, compared to 2010, and up 3.5 percent in the four-wheel drive sector.
While these are still preliminary numbers, it does show that more tractors were sold in 2011 compared to 2010. It will be interesting to see how these trends continue into the New Year, especially in the wake of the volatile commodity market and expectations for an even larger corn crop in 2012.
So, are you gearing up for any big purchases in 2012?
