I like to do things myself. Yes, sometimes a “project” can become a full day of frustration, but I get some sense of satisfaction knowing that I was able to accomplish a specific task. It’s something that’s been made significantly easier with Google and YouTube videos.
But professional services are there for a reason, and sometimes they are more of a value than an expense. Here’s my recent situation: Digital cameras are tremendous instruments for today’s photographers, yet they need continual cleaning to ensure that dust does not wind up on your camera sensor…and thus into the photograph. It’s something I continually battle while shooting on the farm.
I can usually remove the dust myself. Yet there are times in which a tiny dust speck adheres like glue to the photo sensor, and I go overboard trying to remove it. Yesterday, the exact scenario played out. Now have more dust and grime on my sensor than when I started. I knew going in that I should just take the camera in for service, but I was in a hurry…and a million other excuses. The pro will clean the sensor in less than an hour, and have it back in my hands ready to go. It is money well invested. And in the long run, my equipment will remain in top condition ready for the next photo shoot.
So when do you bite the bullet and take your equipment in for service instead of doing it yourself?
