According to the USDA, most of you have all your corn and soybeans planted, and corn has emerged in most fields.

And rest assured, the wide array of early season crop challenges will continue to be talked about well into the growing season – it’s the same tune played every year.

It can definitely be a stressful part of the year, and it’s no fun staying glued to the radar screen hoping a passing thunderstorm will move your way (or, you hope it falls apart and brings no additional moisture).

But one thing is for certain, combines will roll this fall – and very likely earlier than normal. So it will be imperative to have everything ready to go. It’s something preached so often – pre-season maintenance – yet it’s equally amazing how harvest can sneak right up on us. (See below for resources related to combine maintenance!)

And of course, don’t forget those hard-working planters. A little bit of TLC now will have you ahead of the game come spring.

What’s your post-planting maintenance plan?
