With planting first on the mind of most producers, it’s probably not a surprise to see sales of the larger horsepower tractors slide a bit in March.
According to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ March 2014 Flash Report, sales of 100+ hp two-wheel drive tractors were down 8.7 percent compared to the same month a year ago. For that segment, sales are down 1.6 percent for the year. Four-wheel-drive tractor sales were down 1.8 percent for March 2014 compared to the same period a year ago, and are down 6.8 percent for the year.
Sales in the under 40-hp segment took a big jump, up 27 percent for March 2014 compared to March a year ago, and for the year are up 11.7 percent. Sales in the 40 hp to under 100 hp segment were up 7.7 percent for the month, and are up 2.1 percent for the year.
It’s still very early in the year, but these numbers are worth keeping watching, especially if you are in the market for a new tractor, or are looking to sell some used equipment.
Will you be buying anytime soon?
