Starting fall maintenance


While the most-recent USDA crop progress report showed we’re still a bit behind the average pace of crop growth in the Corn Belt (but well behind last year’s pace), it’s almost certain that harvest will be here well before you know it.

Basic pre-harvest maintenance issues are a no-brainer to ensure a smooth slide into harvest. And while there will always be those emergency maintenance repairs, going into harvest with well-maintained machinery can help reduce those harvest headaches.

Throughout the harvest season, I’d like to hear from you. Let me know how you are progressing. In the meantime, I’d like to get a sense of when you start your pre-harvest maintenance program. About how many weeks before harvest starts do you bring the machinery into the shop? And what maintenance items do you pay particular attention?
